Our History

Chapter 1: Our Journey So Far (2008–2016)

From 9/11 memorials and Japan–U.S. festivals to projects in Iwate, Seville, and Kumamoto, and the remembrance of 3.11, this period built lasting bonds through peace, exchange, and music uniting people across regions and generations through shared hope and harmony.

9.11 Memorial Concert

After 15 years, our 9.11 Memorial Concert series comes to a conclusion. Thanks to all who participated in this meaningful journey.

Japan-U.S. Chorus Festival

The Japan-U.S. Chorus Festival wrapped up with great success, carrying forward the incredible energy form the festivals of 2017,2013, and 2011. 

Pacific Bridge Concert Tour

The Boys & Girls Choir of Harlem Alumni Ensemble brought solace to Iwate Prefecture.

Coro HAGI from Sendai in Sevilla!

Haiku and Chorus marked this milestone with concerts and haiku exchanges at the Royal Alcázar of Seville and in Coria del Río, renewing the friendship born from the Keichō Mission.

Together for Kumamoto with Chita

We believe Kumamoto was uplifted and cheered by remarkable performance. Big thanks to everyone who made it.

The 5th Anniversary of Together for 3.11 

The Great East Japan Earthquake on 3.11.2011 brought immense loss and hardship. Through “Together for 3.11,” we remember those affected and celebrate the resilience and hope that continue to guide us forward.

Chapter 2: The Path Toward a New International Partnership (2017–2023)

Events during this period strongly reflected themes of international partnership, cultural exchange, and the awakening of a new phase.

Tour of Spain and Italy

New York Cultural Exchange

Invited the Tomales Girls’ Choir to the 11th “Circle of Wind” concert and visited Ikuei Gakuen (Japanese School of New York) to connect with the students.

The 1st Japon-Hasekura Cup

The Hasekura Cup is an international soccer event fostering friendship between Japan and Spain.
Junior youth teams from Onagawa visit Spain to play against local clubs, participate in home-stays, and celebrate the 400-year historical ties between the two countries.

Ongoing activities that mark new challenges and future visions — the beginning of a new chapter in our shared journey.

Exhibition on Tsunenaga Hasekura and the City Alliance!
410th Anniversary of the Audience with the Pope — Vatican Symposium

Reiwa Mission to Europe
Participated in Japan Week in Coria and Cibita. Held a joint choral concert.
Met with mayors and other municipal leaders to discuss partnership agreements.

Tohoku Crossing II
Two delegates from Coria, including Mr. Japón, visited Japan.
They ran from Yonezawa City to Onagawa City, visiting local mayors along the route.

Exhibition: “The Keichō Mission and the Hasekura City Alliance” 
During the Tanabata Festival period, a special exhibition corner was set up inside the Date Masamune and Teizan Canal Story event at Fujisaki Department Store.
Although the initial attendance estimate was 3,000 visitors, the exhibition drew 7,000 attendees.

410th Anniversary of the Audience with the Pope — Vatican Symposium 
Scheduled to be held in commemoration of the 410th anniversary of Hasekura Tsunenaga’s audience with the Pope.
