Story Behind

It's hard to believe, but the "9.11 Memorial Wind Circles Concert" is celebrating its 7th edition this year.

We are truly grateful for everyone's generous support. The JCH choir, which joined as the host of this concert in 2011, has successfully fulfilled its mission by participating in the "Haiku and Choral Cultural Exchange Project," a highlight of the "Keicho Mission to Europe 400th Anniversary Event" held at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Alcázar Palace, in Seville, Spain, in May of this year. This grand project can be considered a magnificent romance that transcends 400 years of time and space, connecting Japan, Spain, and the United States. JCH members had the opportunity to stay with the descendants of the mission known as Hapón-san, fostering precious friendships.

Carrying those cherished memories, JCH will recreate some of the songs they sang in Spain at the "9.11 Memorial Wind Circles Concert."

The climax will be the bullfighter's song "Toreador's Song," which they performed at the farewell party venue. On September 11th, students from the Japanese school at "Lycée Kennedy" will join in singing and dancing, adding to the excitement. Please look forward to it.

In the "J-Pop Now and Then" stage, JCH plans to debut their unique choral arrangement of "Kusunoki," a song composed and written by Masaharu Fukuyama, a second-generation survivor from Nagasaki.

Furthermore, in the modern dance segment, Miki Orihara will dance to an original song composed by Senri Oe, accompanied by Oe himself. Also, the unconventional trio "Swing 16," specializing in Gypsy Jazz, is scheduled to make a special appearance.

In the second half of the concert, following last year and the year before, you will enjoy the performance of the Manhattan Symphony Orchestra led by Mr. Gregory Singer. Collaborating with the choir, they will perform Fauré's "Pavane" and, for the finale, Mr. Gregory himself will conduct "War & Peace," a piece composed specifically for this concert, featuring a choir. Please anticipate a memorable experience.
